Delightful. Beautiful. Peaceful. Productive. These adjectives summarize the 2008 Montreat THRIVE Conference. Between the location and the attendees, we were overjoyed with the turnout.
Located at Montreat College in Montreat, North Carolina, staff and attendees enjoyed the mountains, scenery and the splendor that Montreat offers. We hope to return to this tranquil place for another THRIVE Conference!
We had a great group of people highly invested in learning the skills that transform lives, marriages and relationships. Track I was led by Ed and Maritza Khouri while Kitty Wilder took the helm in Track II. Jen Coursey taught synchronized dancing, Chris Coursey led God’s Hour exercises and Sandy Coursey ran the bookstore. This conference included many “firsts”. For one, this was our first East Coast THRIVE and it just so happened in historic Montreat College, the home of Billy and Ruth Graham. Interestingly, we, the Coursey’s, participated in Track II this time around, rather than lead a track. Jen wanted to catch up on her skill training and who better to help than her hubby? Here is what makes THRIVE unique. It’s not just what you know, it’s your effectiveness with the 19 skills that make a difference. Skill training is important! It’s not just watching or hearing about the skills that change character, it’s having the skills that let you effectively teach and transmit them to the people you love. Each THRIVE facilitator takes this training seriously and works hard to ensure they have the experience and expertise to compliment knowledge and understanding. Jesus tells us wisdom comes when we put into practice what we learn, especially when the direction comes from above. (Mt. 7:24) THRIVE is designed for attendees to be more like Jesus in word and action.
We anticipated God’s goodness and faithfulness. Did He ever answer! Relationships were nurtured, 19 skills were practiced and joy blossomed! When you come to THRIVE you not only have fun while you learn but you gain experience that leads to improved marriages, effective ministry and changed maturity. We hope to see you soon!
